Kekerasan pecah di kota London, Inggris setelah polisi dituding menembak mati seorang pria berusia 29 tahun di daerah miskin Tottenham, awal Agustus 2011 lalu. Demonstrasi damai memperingati kematiannya meledak menjadi kekerasan pada Sabtu 9 Agustus 2011 ketika pemrotes melempari polisi dengan batu, memecahkan etalase toko-toko, dan membakar mobil-mobil serta bus.
Di ibu kota Inggris, London, gedung-gedung, mobil, perhentian bus terbakar, sementara polisi bentrok dengan kaum muda untuk malam ke 3 berturut-turut pada Senin malam, 11 Agustus 2011, di beberapa daerah London. Toko-toko dan restoran dijarah dan polisi dilempari dengan bom molotov (bom bensin).
Warga London mengatakan kerusuhan itu dipicu kemarahan terhadap keadaan ekonomi yang suram di London utara, angka pengangguran yang tinggi, dan berkurangnya pelayanan masyarakat.
